A Historic Milestone: Breaking Ground on Kids Co.’s First Standalone Early Learning Center at Copperleaf Northgate
For 37 years, Kids Co. has had the privilege of partnering with Seattle families, primarily providing high-quality school-age care within local public-school buildings. Today, we are thrilled to turn the page to a historic new chapter in our organization’s history.
We are officially breaking ground on our first-ever standalone early learning center, located at Copperleaf Northgate!
This 7,761-square-foot, purpose-built facility – developed in partnership with Community Roots Housing and the City of Seattle Human Services Department – represents a bold leap forward in our commitment to accessible, equitable early childhood education.
Child Care is the Work That Makes ALL Other Work Possible
At Kids Co., we have always operated under a foundational truth: child care is the work that makes ALL other work possible.
When parents have access to safe, reliable, and nurturing environments for their children, entire communities thrive. Parents can pursue careers, attend school, manage households, and contribute to our local economy – all with the peace of mind that their children are learning and growing in a supportive space.
Nowhere is this connection clearer than at our new Copperleaf Northgate location.
Situated right at the Northgate Station transit hub, this project sits at the intersection of affordable housing, public transit, and high-quality early childhood education.
Imagine the daily routine for a working parent living upstairs in affordable housing or stepping off the Link light rail: rather than navigating complex commutes across town for child care, they can drop their toddler off at a bright, purpose-built center steps from transit before heading to work. By pairing early learning directly with housing and public transit, we are actively removing logistical and economic barriers for working families.
What to Expect at Copperleaf Northgate
Designed with young learners in mind, our new center will feature:
- Capacity for 88 Young Learners: Serving toddlers and preschoolers aged 24 months to 6 years across custom-designed, vibrant classrooms.
- Dedicated Outdoor Play Space: Providing secure, engaging outdoor play environments essential for physical, social, and emotional development.
- Uncompromising Commitment to Equitable Access: To ensure cost is never a barrier, the center will accept Washington State Working Connections Child Care (WCCC), King County Best Start for Kids, and City of Seattle Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) child care subsidies – alongside tuition support from our Kids Co. Tuition Assistance Fund.

A milestone like this does not happen in isolation. It is the result of decades of community trust, visionary partners like Community Roots Housing, dedicated advocacy, and the steadfast generosity of our donors, board members, and staff.
