Kids Co. at John Hay provides high-quality before- and after-school care programs focused on building students’ self-confidence, life skills, and curiosity. In our before-school care program, students have many options to start their day out on the right foot, including self-directed play, open-ended teacher-led activities and a nutritious breakfast. The morning session ends with a group clean-up and morning meeting. Then, in our after-school program, students join us in one of our two rooms: a dedicated space for our Kindergarten – 2nd graders, and a pull-out program in John Hay’s spacious cafeteria for our 3rd-5th graders. Both after-school programs serve as a time for students to wind down after a long day at school. Snack is available upon arrival. Our after-school program is based on choice. Students make decisions to participate in our daily activity, indoor free-play, or outdoor/gym active play. A dedicated homework time allows students a safe and supportive environment to get a start on their homework. A group clean-up and evening meeting finish off our day.
Kids Co. at John Hay also offers a Pre-K program focused on preparing children for elementary school. Through developmentally-appropriate play in a supportive and structured setting, students build self-confidence and independence, problem solving skills and compassion. Each week has a different theme with many activities focused on developing academic, physical and social-emotional skills while encouraging students to explore their personal interests and their world. Our Pre-K class provides additional enrichment activities, including field trip adventures, regular visits the John Hay Elementary and Queen Anne Public Libraries, and weekly yoga classes.
Kids Co. at John Hay is open for summer day camp while Seattle Schools are on summer vacation. Each week is given an exciting and engaging theme. Activities and field trips converge to make these themes come to life. Campers make daily discoveries about themselves, their peers and their world. It is definitely a fun time to be a kid!
