Char Davies
Char Davies has been involved with Kids Co. since
the very beginning, back in 1989. At that time,
Char was working with clients independently,
consulting on accounting, software and computer-
related issues. "Susan somehow got my name,"
recalls Char, referring to Kids Co. co-founder and
President and CEO, Susan Brown. "Kids Co. was
just getting off the ground. She had set up a basic
bookkeeping system, and asked me to take a look
at it, and also to make sure that proper business
systems, procedures and controls were set up,"
Char continues.
Char went on to help found Jacobson Jarvis in
1991, a full-service certified public accounting and
consulting firm with the express purpose of being a
sustaining resource to the not-for-profit community
in the Pacific Northwest. By that time, Char and
Susan had already formed a great relationship.
"Susan and I had a great vibe working with each
other. It was clear to me that she wanted to make
an investment in doing the absolute right thing
from the very outset of Kids Co.," says Char. So
naturally, Kids Co. was one of Jacobson Jarvis'
very first customers.
Kids Co. has since been a customer for many
years. And while Char does not have children of
his own, he maintains a deep sense of connection
to Kids Co. and the important work of providing
high-quality child care. "I very much appreciate the
work being done, and how Susan and her team go
about doing it. The dedication to
children and families is amazing.
In a sense, I have a vicarious
connection to kids through Kids
Co.," he laughs.
While Char has nurtured Kids Co.
for years as a donor, through his
work at Jacobson Jarvis, and his personal support
and friendship with Susan, he has been active
with a number of other nonprofit organizations.
Currently, Char serves on the Board of Directors
of Bailey-Boushay House - America's first skilled
nursing facility that was planned, funded, built and
staffed to meet the needs of people living with
AIDS. He is also deeply supportive of Partners In
Health, an international organization that is working
on the ground in poor communities worldwide to
combat disease and poverty. "I like to be a part
of organizations that are doing the hard work, out
in the field, succeeding in different and innovative
ways," Char remarks.
Char is also very proud of the work of Jacobson
Jarvis. "Our intent from day one was to support the
local nonprofit community. Now in our sixteenth
year, our commitment hasn't wavered." Char's
commitment to Kids Co. has remained rock-solid
as well. We are so grateful for his ongoing support
of Kids Co. and other organizations
doing great work in our community,
and around the world. Thanks Char!
