| MISD provides dedicated classroom for child care at Island Park | |
|
The early results are in, and the new child care
space at Island Park Elementary is a smash hit! The Mercer Island School District came through with flying colors in order to meet the needs of kids and parents during the 2006-2007 school year by creating a space in the main building of Island Park, in a classroom set up specifically for out-of-school time. "The move to a dedicated space gives our program real stability, and a foundation to build upon," says Program Director, Cathy Reed. "All the hard work and resources the district invested in the classroom is reflected in the sense of pride and ownership the kids now feel for the program," she continues. ![]() |
According to Cathy, the district equipped the
classroom with everything needed to run a high-quality program, including new appliances, sinks,
shelving, cupboards, cubbies, security features and
the use of two school computers. In addition to our new space at Island Park, Kids Co. at Lakeridge continues to provide care to students. To further demonstrate their commitment, the MISD transportation department makes it possible for West Mercer students to participate in either of the Kids Co. programs. Kids Co. thanks the MISD, and in particular, would like to extend heart-felt gratitude to Keith Ellis, Kathy Morrison, Liz Dodd and Stephanie John-Lewis for all their help in securing and setting up the new space. ![]() |
