Kids Co. at John Hay Summer Day Camp 2012
2012 SUMMER DAY CAMP WEEKLY THEMES:
YOU, ME, EVERYBODY (JUNE 25-29)
This week we will get to know each other better by playing traditional games and sports with a twist. Disco soak'em, oversized Battleship and capture the flag with water balloons are a few of the wacky games we will play. We will float our cares away on the lazy river at the Federal Way Pool.
LIQUID JUNGLE (JULY 2-6; CLOSED JULY 4)
Week features the underwater jungle living in our own backyards. We will visit tide pools and check out the local wildlife living just under the surface of the Puget Sound. We will also create an under the sea mural and salmon fish prints. Come join us as we head to the Seattle Aquarium to see amazing creatures eye to eye.
EMERALD CITY ADVENTURES (JULY 9-13)
Get ready for adventure as we learn about all that Seattle has to offer (well, almost all). From the Ballard Locks to a Seattle Storm game, every day will feature a true Seattle “must-see.” We will also learn to be better stewards of our city through our annual community service project with EarthCorps.
SHIPWRECK ISLAND (JULY 16-20)
Imagine that you are shipwrecked on a deserted Island. Where would you live? What would you eat? Through collaboration and cooperation, we will be challenged to build shelters and prepare food with limited and unusual items. Who knows, we may even find a pirate treasure! And if we are really lucky, we will hitch a Ride on The Duck.
KITCHEN CHEMISTRY (JULY 23-27)
We love science and we love food so for this week we are going turn our food into science. We will conduct experiments using food and we will learn about the science of cooking food and make some tasty treats. We will also head over to the Pike Place Market for a food adventure and have a special guest scientist join us for a day
EVERY DAY IS A HOLIDAY (JULY 30-AUGUST 2; CLOSED AUGUST 3)
When every day is a holiday, be prepared for lots of fun and excitement! We will learn to hula for our luau; we will dress-up in costumes and make a haunted house for Halloween; and we will create a float for a Mardi Gras parade down Queen Anne Avenue. We will end the week with a birthday party complete with a cake, piñata and magician.
WRINKLE IN TIME (AUGUST 6-10)
There is something strange going on at Kids Co at John Hay. We keep moving forward and backward in time. Step into our time machine and join us while we visit past, present and future. We will travel back in history to 1833 Fort Nisqually, Tacoma, in a yellow time machine with wheels and see what life was like for some of the first settlers of the Pacific Northwest.
IMAGINATION CELEBRATION (TWO WEEK SESSION, AUGUST 13-24)
Don’t miss out as we celebrate the imagination through drama, movie-making, fine art and photography. Guest artist, Nicole Appell, will guide us in our fine art creations. We will capture the wonders of our city through photography and find our inner thespian through dramatic performances. Join us for our family event on Thursday, August 23rd where we will showcase our art creations and performances.
FANTASTIC FINALE (AUGUST 27-30)
This is our last hurrah before school starts. We will host our annual Kids Co. at John Hay Hootenanny with a water slide, bouncy house, obstacle course challenge, face painting, snow cones and more! Watch your eggs drop from the top of the fire department's ladder truck! We will end our summer with a barbeque at Golden Gardens Beach.
